ABOUT BART

Bart Dijkman (Naarden 1959), composer of contemporary classical music, film and pop music, producer, and sound designer.

After graduating from ArtEZ University of the Arts, Bart started his career in television in the early 1990s, specializing in screenwriting, directing, and sound editing. Soon after, he shifted his focus to composing and sound design for TV documentaries, video productions, and games, establishing his studio in 1993.

For 50 years, he has been creating music, starting with soundtracks for film, documentaries, and games. However, over the past four years, he has increasingly focused on autonomous, classical compositions. His eclectic, neo-classical style blends French Impressionism, Bach, and composers like Stravinsky and his contemporaries.

His work is shaped by an intuitive and visual approach. For Bart, composing is like painting with tones and timbres: intuitive, exploratory, and visual, where serendipity plays a key role.

As a member of Nieuw Geneco and its partner organization Stichting New Music Now, he is committed to strengthening the position of composers in the Netherlands.

In addition to his compositional work, Bart lectures in Multimedia- and Sound Design (CMD) at HAN University of Applied Sciences, guiding students in their creative and conceptual development.

"I haven't understood a bar of music in my life, but I have felt it"

Igor Stravinsky
